We previously posted the Suffering Samurai, our Japanese-inspired riff on the Suffering Bastard, but this time we’re highlighting the classic version. The drink was created in 1942 by legendary bartender Joe Scialom at the Shepheard Hotel in Cairo as a hangover cure—some even say that it helped British troops defeat the Nazis in North Africa during World War II.
Lime juice can be subbed, but for best results use a homemade lime cordial (The Educated Barfly & Distinguished Spirits both have good recipes on their YouTube channels) and a ginger beer with some serious kick to it!
