Halekulani Cocktail

Best enjoyed while rocking a lei!

A tiki cocktail without rum, whaaaaaat? Yes please! The Halekulani, which uses bourbon as its base spirit, dates back to the 1930s when it was first served at the House Without a Key bar at the famed Halekulani Hotel on Waikiki, HI. While it may be a somewhat lesser-know tiki cocktail (though we’re on a mission to change that!), it’s absolutely crushable and has quickly become one of our favorites. We like to add an extra .5 oz of bourbon than the original recipe asks for, so let’s go ahead and call it a VIP Halekulani—for the VIP status in all of us.

Pro tip: when prepping your ingredients (e.g., squeezing your juices) plan for a Round 2. Trust us.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz orange juice

1/2 oz pineapple juice

1/4 oz demerara syrup

1/2 teaspoon grenadine

2 oz bourbon (we use Old Grand-Dad)

1 dash Angostura bitters

Garnish ideas: edible flower; dehydrated pineapple wedge or citrus fruit; or go fancy and serve old-fashioned style with an orange peel. Most importantly, have fun with it!

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed or cracked ice. Shake for a good 8-12 seconds and double strain into a chilled coupe. Add garnish.
